What began as a simple remodel in Basalt quickly evolved into a full-scale new build, marked by unexpected challenges and creative solutions. The initial goal was to update and enhance the existing structure, but foundational issues led the homeowners down an unforeseen path: rebuilding from the ground up.
Due to zoning regulations, the new structure had to remain within the exact footprint of the original home. This constraint pushed us to be both innovative and intentional, ensuring every inch of space was maximized while still honoring the home’s character.
Working closely with the builder, we infused the design with a warm cabin aesthetic, seamlessly blending rustic elements with modern touches. Though not original to the home, the log-and-chinking exterior was incorporated to enhance its old-world charm while fully encompassing the original log cabin, both inside and out. To further enrich the home’s sense of history and authenticity, we introduced all-stone walls in the entryway and plaster walls throughout. Reclaimed wood flooring runs seamlessly through the home, reinforcing its natural warmth and timeless appeal.
For focal points, we designed simple yet striking fireplaces in the living room and primary suite, creating cozy yet refined moments in each space. In the kitchen, Taj Mahal quartzite countertops bring a classic elegance, while the bathrooms feature old-world tile paired with sleek modern surfaces for a thoughtfully curated look. To add a subtle industrial edge, steel elements were introduced in the living room ceiling trusses, kitchen bar area, and custom shelving units throughout the home. Thoughtfully selected interior and exterior decorative lighting highlights these bold architectural details, adding depth and cohesion to the overall design.
This project stands as a testament to the power of adaptability and thoughtful design. Currently still under construction, the home is in its final stages, bringing together past and present in a fresh, refined way. The photos accompanying this story capture moments from the process as the transformation continues to unfold. Stay tuned for the final reveal
When our clients in Lafayette came to us with a vision for their home, they knew they wanted a refresh—but they also wanted to honor the history woven into their space. With several cherished heirloom pieces, our challenge was to create a design that felt updated and cohesive while preserving the sentimental details that made the house feel like home.
The heart of the renovation was the kitchen. To create a more modern and open feel, we removed the outdated soffit, instantly updating the space. We replaced the cabinetry, shifting from the original oak finish to a crisp white, while introducing a navy blue island to tie in beautifully with the blue elements found throughout the home. Adjusting the island’s placement allowed for better functionality and improved flow, making the kitchen more intuitive and spacious. Thoughtfully selected finishes and refined details brought the design together, creating a space that is both modern and timeless—perfect for gathering, cooking, and everyday living.
In the primary suite bathroom, storage was a priority. Working within the existing plumbing layout to save time and costs, we reconfigured the space to incorporate additional storage solutions without compromising comfort. The result was a serene and functional retreat that met the client’s needs while maintaining a sense of ease and sophistication.
To unify the home, we installed hardwood flooring throughout, adding warmth and continuity from room to room. We carefully balanced old and new, introducing a few updated furnishings while seamlessly incorporating the client’s heirloom pieces. By layering textures, selecting complementary finishes, and ensuring a cohesive aesthetic, we created a space that felt refreshed yet deeply personal—where every detail told a story.
This project was a testament to our belief that great design isn’t just about transformation—it’s about honoring what matters most to the people who live in the space.
